So here we are in April 2015 and NetWar Red & Blue Network Basic Sets are on their way to the distribution center in Austin, TX.
Legion 13 Games Austin Studio couldn't be in more ecstatic state right now and the anticipation to lay our hands on some freshly printed decks of NetWar cards is not the least impacting fact of the many reasons!
However we are not forgetting that getting to this spot in the space/time fabric hasn't been easy and free of labor -- far form it.
Many people have spent countless hours around designing, testing, drawing, painting, logistics, etc. to make this all reality.
It's been a long, but mentally rewarding, trek to get this moment in time to say the least.
Let's dissect that journey for the loyal supporters as a time line:
1994 -- SteelBall: Flesh + Steel game mechanics are designed; Slipknot Games is founded
2001 -- Trencher: The Eternal Conflict game mechanics are designed
2001/2002 -- NetWar: The First Connection is designed (originally as EPOCH: The Journey)
2004 -- SteelBall celebrates its 10th anniversary
2011 -- Trencher celebrates its 10th anniversary
2011/2012 -- NetWar celebrates its 10th anniversary
2014 -- Slipknot Games merges with Legion 13 Games; NetWar celebrates its 13th anniversary
2015 -- Legion 13 Games releases NetWar: The First Connection in an official release the first time ~13 years after its initial inception
Now let's think about this time line for a second: it spans over 20 years!?
Therefore no one can hardly blame the creator(s) of these games being guilty of chasing instant gratification? For the lack of perseverance? Determination? Inability to tolerate prolonged risks?
Folks... it takes many, many tangible and psychological hurdles/decisions to make something even as common as a game to be produced: multiple people will spend countless hours away from their families, invest funds with less than reasonable guarantees of "just getting their money back", juggle multiple jobs to keep the lights on, etc. BUT, of course, have tons of FUN while doing so, too!
What we all, who have been involved in this long process, have learned from all this is that you should never give up... never let your dreams fade away... In other words never drop the mighty pen, plow, hammer, etc. that makes all the things in the world happen.
Just like Winston Churchill put it in the 1940s:
"We shall go on to the end,
we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air,
we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender!"
Now all that said we all here at Legion 13 Games hope in the most sincere way that y'all gamers out there will find these games as enjoyable to play as they were to work on!
Please accept our utmost gratitude for the fact that each and every one of you will carry the torch even further from here.
This is just one stop along the long route these games will travel -- thanks to you!
Now...
